We will be packing boxes for local soldiers on Monday, June 8 at Eli’s Sports Bar in Ross, beginning about 7:30. All together, as of now, we have 5. Three are on land and 2 are serving on the USS Theodore Roosevelt. The 2 on the ship are girls, plus one on land is a girl. I don’t think we’ve ever had 3 girls at once. Our theme this month is red, white and blue decorations, along with the normal snacks and goodies, plus personal hygiene products.
We have had a special request for school supplies for 88 kids in an orphanage near Kabul. I know Canee has gotten some stuff from Ross Schools, and the principals are still collecting. I have ordered handheld chalkboards, chalk, pencils and a good pencil sharpener and a pair of scissors for the teacher. I’m not sure what else others have received. We’re looking for paper, crayons (I had doubts about crayons, but they said they would be ok) colored pencils or markers, erasers, construction paper….that kind of thing. These are kids who have nothing, so anything is appreciated.
